1 results foundAuthor: Holtmann, Barbara Title: Policing and Community in South Africa Summary: This paper takes the perspective that South Africa presents a context for a simple relationship between the police and community, where the police focus on the elements of law enforcement for which they carry responsibility, in a friendly, trustworthy and efficient manner, rather than leading crime prevention and other community based safety interventions. While in northern police services in countries with low crime rates relative to South Africa there are smart, sophisticated and compelling models of police at the centre of crime prevention partnerships, this is not necessarily appropriate or even aspirational in South Africa.
