It will examine individual-level, group-based and community initiatives. In doing so, it unpacks their operational processes, philosophical underpinnings and uncovers six essential pillars that account for their success. The primary source of the findings of this brief is qualitative interviews conducted in September 2011 with the leadership of the organizations reviewed. Where available, use was also made of prior special reports, annual reports and evaluations. This research was produced within the Geneva Declaration process.
